(FYI2) The Family and Youth Involvement Initiative believe children with emotional/behavioral health needs are best supported in the context of their own family. Our families require support from other families who have shared the experience of raising a child with emotional/behavioral health needs. This relationship is unique to the culture of families raising these children. Families with this experience have something to offer that goes beyond knowledge and skills gained through traditional education. Family members seeking careers with agencies and agencies seeking to hire family members need expertise, preparation, and support in order to be successful. The role of professional family-to-family support requires training within an ongoing community. The Family and Youth Involvement Initiative seeks to serve as a repository for high quality training and community networking.
